ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

As the Ayous refuge is located in the heart of the park, helicopter rotations to bring up the foodstuffs are limited. The rest of the merchandise is worn on men's or women's backpacks throughout the season. At each portage carried out, we evacuate the trash sorted daily at the refuge and we also ask for the participation of hikers.

The Pyrenees National Park, owner of the building, has chosen to install two private toilets and three dry toilets in the collective bathroom (bring your own ecological toilet paper). The choice of the shower was ruled out for environmental reasons. The waste water is treated by an autonomous sanitation system.

Operation of a composter to process organic waste from the shelter. The rest of the plastic and metal waste is sorted, then evacuated regularly by the team as well as by hikers who wish to participate. It is essential that any hiker also manages his own waste when descending them. Containers are available at Bious-Artigues or whenever you cross a road.
